Today I’m sharing my updated morning routine. I’m partnering with Brandless to show how I go about my morning with a toddler, while still making sure I still take care of myself and maximizing the nutrition in the foods I eat. We usually start the day off around 7:30 - 8am and the first thing I need to do is brush my teeth and apply moisturizer and sunscreen. I do this because I like to let the moisturizer and sunscreen soak in before I apply any makeup later. We head downstairs now and Erisy is becoming very independent so she likes to try to walk down like a big girl. I’m always nervous about this so we’ve been teaching her to hold onto the railing and my hands and we have to go together. After we head down, I get breakfast started for Erisy. She gets a bottle and hangs out with Nate while I quickly prepare some bagels with cheese and then a side of yogurt with some strawberries in there, and a small side of blueberries. Of course, she always eats the fruit first and scrapes off the cheese with her teeth. For the yogurt, I give her a spoon and things can get messy but I love seeing her feed herself and learning how to maneuver her utensils. Hopefully one day she can be a little cleaner, but she’s so darn cute when she eats! Then it’s my turn. I have to have a hot drink in the morning and lately, I’ve been enjoying a simple matcha latte. You guys know I love matcha and I’m excited that now I can get Brandless matcha powder in their wellness collection. I’m just adding 1 teaspoon of this matcha powder directly into my cup, then ¼ cup of boiling water and with my aerolatte whisk, I'll mixx it up. Now I’ll add a hint of honey, vanilla extract, and top it off with some almond milk. Simple and delicious. Ever since Hawaii, when I had my tropical bowl, I’ve really been enjoying a thick smoothie that you eat with a spoon. So that’s what I’m going to share with you today - I’m adding half a frozen banana along with ¼ cup of frozen cherries. I’ll give a quick whirl to break the fruit up - this prevents the blender from “sticking” - and then we add the rest of our ingredients. I am going to add a ¼ of an avocado, 1 tablespoon of almond butter, 2 teaspoons of brandless maca powder. This maca powder is a peruvian superfood powder that comes from a root and it has a nutty, malty, earthy flavor. It has a somewhat butterscotch flavor to it and I love pairing it with some nut butter to really meld the flavors together. It’s also organic, gluten free, and non gmo. Next, I’ll add a tbsp of coconut flakes, and finally ¼ cup of milk. Give it a quick blend - this is a thick smoothie, so if it gets stuck, just move it along with a spatula or something. Now I’ll pour it out into a cup and top it with some fresh berries and more coconut flakes. Once breakfast for me is made, Nate plays with Erisy and Ollie while I eat and during this time, I like to multi-task and listen to podcasts that inspire and motivate me. One of my favorite podcast to listen to is Goal Digger by Jenna Kutcher. Fueling my mind and educating myself is something I thrive on, especially now that I work mostly at home and don’t always get that learning like when I was at a corporate office. Breakfast and learning hour is done and now it’s time to get some sun and play with my girl. We head to the park and this is pretty much where I get my exercise in - chasing after her at the playground. She loves the swings, we go sliding, and exploring in the grass. I love her at this age and get sad thinking about when she’ll have to go to school, so I really cherish this time we get to hang out together!
